Trucks on H2 - A Discussion Paper
Trucks on H2 offers a pathway to significant cost-effective emission reductions, creating a hydrogen infrastructure which is emission free and takes advantage of our clean energy resources in the most cost effective manner. Piloting these systems today in Ontario, such as Canadian Tire’s distribution centre, we could see Trucks ON H2 in commercial service by 2025.

The Cost of Hydrogen (COH) shows that on-site production using electrolysis offers a cost competitive alternative to merchant gas supply, and as demand increases for Green Hydrogen, a superior infrastructure solution.

This report identifies the potential environmental benefits of using electrolysers to produce hydrogen using Ontario’s surplus zero-emission electricity. IESO considers electrolysers Type 3 storage devices [R14] because they use surplus electricity to produce hydrogen that can displace fossil fuels in other sectors.
Next Hydrogen acknowledges our headquarters’ location on part of the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit. In particular we acknowledge the territory of the Anishinabek, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee, Neutral, and Ojibway/Chippewa peoples; the land that is home to the Metis; and most recently, the territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, who are direct descendants of the Mississaugas of the Credit. For thousands of years, Indigenous peoples inhabited and cared for this land, and continue to do so today.
